Chef-Entrepreneur Peter Knipp Addresses Graduates of the Ѹ Singapore

Singapore – Peter Knipp, founder and CEO of Peter Knipp Holdings and Foodservice Consultants Singapore, delivered the commencement address to graduates of Ѹ on 18 September. Mr. Knipp has been a significant contributor to Asia’s food and beverage scene throughout his career, introducing the World Gourmet Summit to Singapore in 1997. It has since grown into one of the region’s most widely anticipated culinary events, with the accompanying Awards of Excellence added in 2001 to recognise food and beverage leaders in the region excelling in their craft.

“Enjoy your achievements right now, but remember it is a never-ending process,” Mr. Knipp told the graduates receiving baccalaureate degrees in Food Business Management. “What you’ve learnt is merely a starting point. The real work of life starts now.”

Mr. Knipp began working as a chef’s apprentice in Berlin, Germany at age 17. His culinary career took him to Switzerland, Canada, the United States, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Taipei, China, and Thailand. He returned to Singapore to stay in 1991 when he was hired as the opening executive chef at the Raffles Hotel. After rising to become the group executive chef of Raffles, he went out on his own, founding his two food, beverage, and hospitality consulting firms as well as Cuisine & Wine Asia magazine.

An honorary lifetime member of the World Association of Chef’s Societies, Mr. Knipp has prepared meals for former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew and the kings of Thailand and Malaysia.

This graduating class began its Ѹ studies in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Technology in 2017 after completing a three-year polytechnic diploma programme. Credits from previous business management courses transferred, allowing students to complete their four-year degree with two years of the Ѹ’s unparalleled hands-on culinary training and certain required liberal arts courses.
